Functieomschrijving

Position

Role: Mid-senior / Senior Backend Engineer (Lead Backend Engineer)

Context: Strengthen a multidisciplinary team responsible for web and mobile backend features, shaping the technical vision together with the domain architect and Chapter lead. Work in an Agile Scrum environment with a DevOps approach and biweekly production delivery.

Purpose

  • Create and maintain a frictionless API layer for mobile and web frontends.
  • Integrate the platform with core financial services.
  • Provide secure and high-performing APIs.

What you will do

  • Shape and communicate the platform technical vision and enable the team to follow it.
  • Design, develop and maintain highly available and resilient backend applications.
  • Implement and maintain REST/JSON APIs, SOA and event-driven designs.
  • Work in an Agile Squad/Chapter setup, participate in Scrum rituals and continuous delivery.
  • Ensure code quality, security and test coverage (unit and integration testing).

Required experience & skills

  • 8+ years professional Java experience (design, develop, maintain production systems).
  • Experience with Java 8+ (preferably Java 11+), Git and Maven.
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA/JDBC.
  • Unit and integration testing experience; Test Driven Development.
  • Understanding of messaging platforms (Kafka, EMS, ActiveMQ and/or IBM MQ).
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting (Prometheus/Grafana), and Elastic Search.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift).
  • Basic Linux commands and bash scripting.
  • Good knowledge of relational databases (Oracle).
  • Knowledge of Azure CI/CD pipelines and cloud migration considerations.

Engagement

  • Work arrangement: This assignment is available on a secondment (detachment) basis only; freelancers (ZZP) are not permitted. Self-employed candidates may be able to work via secondment arrangements.
  • Occasional travel to other European countries may be required.
