Data Scientist – Team Delphi

Shape the future of airport operations with data-driven forecasting. Team Delphi plays a central role in predicting passenger flows across Schiphol Airport. These forecasts directly influence day-to-day operations as well as long-term strategic decisions. As a Data Scientist, you help ensure that millions of passengers can travel smoothly through one of Europe’s busiest airports. You’ll join a multidisciplinary environment where data scientists, machine learning engineers, architects, and business stakeholders work closely together. Your models will not only be accurate — they will be deployed, monitored, and continuously improved in production at a scale few organizations can match.

Your role
As a Data Scientist, you develop and operationalize forecasting models that support planning and decision-making across Schiphol. You work with modern cloud-native tooling and contribute to the landscape of our evolving forecasting and ML infrastructure.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing, productionizing, and supporting machine learning models and data pipelines for forecasting.
  • Implementing monitoring and observability to ensure model reliability and performance.
  • Collaborating closely with ML engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.
  • Exploring new technologies and methods to improve forecasting processes and infrastructure.
  • Aligning technical decisions with product strategy in close cooperation with the product owner.

You’ll work with technologies such as Azure and Databricks in a dynamic environment where innovation is essential.

About the team
The IT & Data department is building the airport of the future. Using advanced digital solutions, tools, and applications, we keep the airport running and continuously improve passenger flows, processes, and information services. Our team is enthusiastic, collaborative, and driven by the impact data can make for passengers and employees.

What you bring
You are analytical, communicative, and able to translate complex business needs into data-driven solutions. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working on challenges that require both technical depth and strategic thinking.

You have:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in machine learning.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Experience with MLOps, cloud computing, and cloud platforms (preferably Azure).
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and running models in production.
  • An analytical mindset and the ability to distinguish between main and secondary issues.
  • Experience with containerized application deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills; English proficiency is required.
  • Bonus: experience with MLflow, PySpark, or Streamlit.

Why this assignment stands out

  • Your work directly influences the experience of millions of passengers.
  • You operate in a unique environment where data science meets real-world operational impact.
  • You help shape the forecasting landscape of one of Europe’s major airports.
  • You collaborate with a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team that values innovation and continuous improvement.

Additional Information

  • Please note that this role involves two intake interviews and an assessment.
  • A candidate may not be submitted for multiple requests simultaneously.
  • A maximum of two candidates per supplier may be submitted.
  • As the number of candidates is expected to be high, feedback will be brief, concise, and general.
